Offer Your Marketing Advice To Cosmetology Schools

My daughter received an unusual flyer in the mail, and I’d like your opinion because I wonder whether this w

ould be a useful way for beauty colleges to appeal to potential students. This flyer came from Northwestern Business College, not from a cosmetology school, and it was just a piece of notebook paper folded in threes. On the outside was no mention of any school, and the return street address was in a handwritten type of font that also wrote out: Hey - sorry about the messy handwriting. I just thought you’d be interested. ?E xoxo

Inside, the lined paper looked like someone maybe about 20 years old had written all over it. A square at the top said, “Notes from visit to school”; next to it was the headline, “Career Training: should I, or shouldn’t I...?” Then it listed “pros” and “cons” of going to a higher level school, and the phone number to call was highlighted in two places. You can get the general idea from the photo here.

Some of the points were well-made and apply to cosmetology school as well, such as, “A better career/brighter future sounds GREAT!” and “Get it done fast.” A zig-zag balloon mentioned “Financial Freedom.” But my daughter thought that, in trying so hard to be young and hip, the piece was actually dopey and annoying. I thought it was cute and could be effective. How about you? Would you tend to respond to something like that?

This sounds like me. I am almost done with my BSBA in Marketing because I was always told I HAD to finish college. Reading this makes me feel a lot better.
