Question: How do I obtain a Colorado Cosmetology License?
Answer: In order to receive a Colorado Cosmetology License in cosmetology, esthetics, nail technology, or electrology from the Colorado State Board of Cosmetology, you need to complete a set of requirements as determined by the Colorado Cosmetology Board.
You must first complete the required number of training hours at any Colorado cosmetology school. Once you finish this training, you will take a licensing exam issued by the Colorado State Board of Cosmetology. When you pass the exam, you’ll receive your Colorado Cosmetology License and will be able to work as a licensed cosmetologist anywhere in the state. If you transfer into Colorado from another state, you must meet the guidelines for transferring your cosmetology license, as listed below.

Question: How much training is required?
Answer: The Colorado Cosmetology Board requires the following number of hours of training for each specialty below:
COSMETOLOGIST: 1800 (60 credits)
BARBER: 1500 (50 credits)
COSMETICIAN: 600 (20 credits)
MANICURIST: 600 (20 credits)
HAIRSTYLIST: 1200 (40 credits)
Applicants for licensure must be at least 16 years of age. Home salons and mobile salons are allowed.
Question: How do I transfer my license from another state?
Answer: Colorado does not have reciprocity, they have endorsement and everyone who holds an active license in another state may apply for endorsement and this is reviewed on an individual basis.
