Kentucky License Information
The Kentucky State Board of Cosmetology requirements:
Apprentice Cosmetologist/Cosmetologist:
• 1,800 hours
• 10th grade education
Nail Technician:
• 600 hours
• 10th grade education
Esthetician:
• 1,000 hours
• 12th grade education
Apprentice Instructor/Instructor:
• 1,000 hours
• 12th grade education
Kentucky State Board of Cosmetology Additional Requirements
In addition, applicants are required to pass an examination prescribed by the board to determine fitness to practice and paid the appropriate fees.
Reciprocity: Any applicant from out-of-state who holds a valid cosmetologist or esthetician license and can show proof of 2 years’ current experience, may come before the state board for examination (practical only). Applicants must pay the out-of-state examination fee and the license fee.
