Answer: In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, esthetics or nail technology in the state of West Virginia, students must complete the requirements listed below. As stated by the West Virginia (PA) State Board of Cosmetology, to get a WV cosmetology license, one must have attended a West Virginia cosmetology school or when transferring into the state, the PA Board of Cosmetology, requires you to meet their guidelines. After finishing your training, you are required to pass a licensing exam issue by the West Virginia (WV) State Board of Cosmetology.
Once passing you will receive your West Virginia cosmetology license. You’re now able to work in the state of West Virginia. Keep in mind, just because you received your WV cosmetology license you may want to consider continuing education to further get full utilization from your WV cosmetology license. Esthetics: 600 hours

Question: How do I transfer my license from another state?
Answer: Reciprocity will be granted if training equals or exceeds the requirements for a West Virginia license. The West Virginia Board will accept actual licensed work experience in lieu of part of the required training. Work experience is awarded at 25 hours per month of salon work, or 300 hours per year. Total work experience that may be accepted cannot exceed 50% of the required hours, and must have been acquired within the past 5 years.
